Before I get into the meat of this post, I wanted to draw your attention to something new. This blog has a logo! My lovely friend Karri designed it for me, and also made a matching Photoshop brush I can use to watermark my photos. Yay! Karri has made a couple of logos for me so I can safely say she does great work. If you’re interested in hiring her, then drop me a comment or email and I can put you in touch.
When people think of Dallas the city, they often think of the 80’s TV show, J.R. Ewing, and Southfork Ranch. I know you have the theme song in your head right now! It’s a tourist hot spot and I would be silly not to go for a visit.
Southfork Ranch is located in Parker, Texas, which is in the far Northeast part of the metroplex. Tours are offered daily, and they have it down to a science. You can be in and out in under an hour, or spend longer if you want to wander around the grounds.
The guided tour starts with a tram ride and a history of the ranch, followed by a walk through of the Ewing Mansion. The mansion has rooms decorated to honor the characters from the original series. There is also one area that was redone for the new series, and used as a filming location for the death of J.R. Ewing

While the mansion is filled with nostalgia, the ranch grounds are very nice to walk around too. There are horses, longhorns, and other animals to say hello to.
Southfork Ranch is located at 3700 Hogge Road, Parker TX 75002. Tickets for adults will run you about $15. Nowadays the ranch is mostly a tourist attraction, but the revival TV show does use the property to film outdoor scenes from time to time. There is also a large gift shop to have a mosey in, and a large event center which can handle parties, corporate events, etc.
It’s a classic, y’all!
